Ban on Hand Guns
Bans on handguns has been an important issue for many years. Many people have different opinions as to whether handguns should be banned or not. Some believe we should ban hand guns altogether but some believe we should not ban the people's right to own handguns at all. I personally believe handguns should be banned.
Private ownership of hand guns should not be allowed. Hand guns are very dangerous firearms, they are easily carried and concealed. Hand guns are capable of countinously firing a large number of rounds without reloading and are therefore unsafe in private hands.
Critics of handgun control clam that if we limit access to guns it will have little affect on the rates of homicides, because people who want to kill work really hard to get a handgun or will find another way to kill. Handgun owners engaging in their own defense are taking the law into their own hands.
This is wrong and unsafe. Only the police have the right to take the law into their own hands. It must be kept out of the hands of citizens. Use of handguns reduces people's confidence on the police and the government.
In United States, homicide is the second leading cause of death of youth. A child between ten and nineteen years old
commits suicide with a handgun every five hours. I strongly agree that all guns can cause a certain degree of damage; therefore, people should not be allowed to bring handguns home or own handguns. Most of the time handguns are not able to protect, but they may increase the unintentional accidents instead. All Kids play with toy guns, they know that hand guns are not safe. If we have a real handgun in our house, we can tell them that...
Gun control issues are more complex and must be analyzed more carfully
There are a lot of facts in this essay, yet it lacks some analysis. We understand clearly throughout it that violence is bad, that guns entail violence, therefore there should be a powerful gun control. But there are deeper issue that can be dealt with here.
If you look at goes around overseas, you\'ll see that there are as many guns in Canada as in the US (per family), and yet not as many gun-related crime.
.. Why is it so ? Must be cultural...the US has developped a culture of fear as Micheal Moore says in his latest documentary Bowling for Columbine. It\'s not the media (South Park and Hollywood blockbusters do cross the borders and don\'t make foreigners act like Americans do), European countries have been through two major wars with horrible acts of violence and so on...it\'s puzling, it\'s very difficult to have a clear cut explanation, therefore interesting for an essay !
