Case Study

Chris Smith is the newly hired Executive Assistant of the Faith Community Hospital. Pat, the CEO of Community Hospital, has given Chris his first task. According to Pat, the hospital has encountered problems with "organizational processes, ethics issues, and communication systems" (University of Phoenix, 2006). Pat has asked Chris to write a case study of what Pat perceives to be the problems with the hospital for an all hands meeting that will occur in two weeks. Chris has recently graduated from the University of Phoenix and is ready to take on the assignment.

From the observations made in the case study, there are two main areas that this paper will identify and propose possible solutions. The first problem area is the lack of a consistent following of the mission statement and the lack of standard operating procedures of Faith Community Hospital.

The second problem area is the lack of sustained income. Without income, the hospital will not survive.

Faith Community Hospital's Mission Statement

"With the foundation and commitment of our spiritual heritage and values, our mission is to promote the health and well-being of the people in the communities we serve through a comprehensive continuum of services provided in collaboration with the partners who share the same vision and values" (University of Phoenix, 2006). This mission statement serves as the foundation and direction of the hospital. Since the hospital is a faith-based, the staff has obligations not only to the patients, but also on an individual level to his or her God and themselves. Being a faith-based hospital also has some challenges in ethics, morals, and faith-based decisions for the nurses.
