Weed. Pot. Dope. Mary Jane. There are many names for marijana, the most widely used illegal drug on the streets. Not everyone thinks it should be illegal, though. There is a group for people who think marijuana should be legalized. It is called NORML, which stands for National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Legalization. Is pot really as bad as it is made out to be? Marijuana can be used for more than the intoxicating effects it has on the human body. But when it is used for intoxication, marijuana is less harmful to the body than alcohol, which more than half of the population of America consumes.

Hemp, the fibrous strands from the stem of the marijuana plant can be used for many things. First of all, hemp is strong. A single strand of hemp is three times as strong as a strand of cotton rope the same size.

That means that hemp rope would be more efficient than the average cotton rope. If you have ever had a shoelace break, you know how frustrating cotton rope can be. Hemp shoelaces would last at least twice as long. It could also be used to make stronger seatbelts. The average seatbelt is made of polyester, which is only one third as strong as hemp.

Rope is not all that hemp can be used for. It can also be used for more durable clothing. Since hemp is so strong, it would be harder to get those annoying rips in your shirt. If you have a child, you know they love to crawl around. That wears holes in the knees of the pants very quickly. Hemp pants would not get holes as quickly.
