The purpose of this paper is to explain the causes and effects of teen suicides. Some causes are depression, stress, parents, drugs, popularity status, and self doubt or esteem. A few of the effects are the lose of a life, young or old, the anguish and grief from family and loved ones. About 30,000 people commit suicide a year. To me this number is quite high, and to think that number is always rising -- especially with the future generations. College student suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for their age group. Also, from ages 10-14 it is the 4th leading cause.

The first cause I will discuss is depression, which is a growing problem among teens in to days society. 90% of teen suicide victims have at least one diagnosable psychiatric illness at time of death, most often depression, substance abuse, or behavior disorders. Suicidal teens generally feel that their emotions are being down played.

This leads kids deeper and deeper into depression. Warning signs of depression are, statements about hopelessness, worthlessness, and helplessness. Some lose interest in what they usually care about. People should learn that depression is treatable if it is caught in enough time.

Secondly, the next causes are stress and parents. Stress from family, friends, and teachers is a big part of teen suicide. When your parents want you to be something you are not you get stressed. Also, when your friends pressure you to do something you don't want to you feel stressed out. Last but definitely not least teachers, they can stress you out beyond belief. If you have ever felt you are not good enough your probably just stressed.
