  • Charlotte Bronte

I think someone got mixed up when typing the title because Jane Eyre is written by Charlotte Bronte and not Jane Austen. Overall the essay was good, especially the description of class and gender prejudice in the Victorian era, but more use of quotes to back up your statements would be good.

  • Evidence, Evidence, Evidence!

From an evidence point of view, your essay was quite shallow. You used numerous assertions from the Bush administration yet you do not contend that such assertions are often biased (Bush want's a war with Iraq) and has an element of propaganda in it. In social sciences, you cannot take the sources you use at face value; you must be able to *evaluate* your souces - that is a sign of a good social science essay. More statistics would have been good

  • Good

good use of scholars. I like how you integrated them into your work instead of "name-dropping"

  • Mother...

Obviously, the traditional view of mothers is someone who stayed at home and took care of the domestic chores, and I did like your view that a good mother was one who was accepting. But I can't agree with the view that a good mother necessary had to stay at home and be good at cleaning etc... after all some women do chose to work, and can't be home, but are just as good mothers because of the way they listen to their children, and they way that they understand them.

  • Very factual

Perhaps you should have also mentioned how radio effected society in the 1920's - e.g. after perfecting music broadcasting in the mid-20's it popularised many artists, especially European ones.

Very detailed and well-written essay which discusses both short-term and long-term benefits for the British empire

  • Nice but a bit too short

It has good points, but I think that by using some references to the actual novel, and perhaps by extending some of your ideas, the essay could be even better.

  • Some very good points made

Perhaps you should have used language that was a bit more formal - perhaps also mention the fact the "Americanization" of other countries isn't always wanted or appreciated - nobody wants a monoculture.
