Human resource specialists provide guidance and expert advice in a variety of areas related to human resource management. The specialists respond to, handle, and address issues that have an impact on internal operations and employee relations. For example, some HR tasks include performance improvement processes, policy violations and investigations, compensation, and training. In today's society human resource management plays an important part of management because it influences all employees of the company. The role of human resource management should be to attract and maintain employees. However, many companies are having a hard time accomplishing this goal because human resource management is changing. During the past decade, companies have been changing the emphasis of the HR department to include ethics, diversity, globalization, technology, and e-business. This paper will look at the changing role of HR management in response to these changes.

Ethics refers to fundamental principles of right and wrong; ethical behavior is behavior that is consistent with those principles.

(Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright 2007, p. p.17). The changing role in American business and ethical pressures has forced the human resources management role to change along with it. HR managers must now view employees as having basic rights. There are three basic rights to consider in human resources practices. First, will the result do the greatest good for the largest number of people? Second, will practices respect the basic human rights of privacy, due process, consent, and free speech? Third, managers must treat employees and customers fairly and equally. (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2007). This leads to the diversity factor. America is considered by many to be one of the most diverse nations in the world. Because of this, most business sense the need to create an organizational cultural that values diversity.
