Comparing life today with life fifty years ago, there are many dramatic changes. There are new forms of media such as Television and the Internet. Family structures and emphasis on values today are nothing like what they were fifty years ago. Even people's life goals and outlook on life are different. With all of these changes it is no wonder why people believe life today for a teenager is far harder than it was fifty years ago.

Teenagers fifty years ago lived a sheltered life compare to those of today. Not only do present day teenagers see and hear about various violent acts within their own community, but they also have knowledge of what is happening all around the country and world. They could even see in graphic detail if they so desired. Thanks to television and the Internet, many young adults have had their lives influenced in ways no one even knew possible.

Next is family. A young persons family should be the strongest influence in a their life. Parents fifty years ago knew this, and made every effort to ensure this was so. Just by looking at what is called a family today, more often than not, it is not what people fifty years ago would call a family. Divorce was unheard of, if there was a child, a mother and father were present as well. Children did not have two dads, or two moms and did not have a choice between Mom and Dad. The stress and turmoil a teenager goes through now just growing up, far surpasses anything a teenager fifty years ago would ever experience.

Since the very structure of a family has changed, not surprisingly the values of a family have changed as well. Fifty years ago, there would be times...
