Executive Summary

The AEC industry is a vital pillar of Australian national economy due to its scale and the role it plays in the development of the economy. This sector contributes value, investment, employment, usable buildings and trade balance to the national economy, and intuitively indicates the socio-economic development of the country. However, unlike other industries, this industry is oriented towards the customization of products. Most customers have their specific requirements for embodying certain functions in the building design, also most projects have different prerequisites for commencement. All these factors diversify the final production and make building structures unique in some degree. Thus, the building construction project should always be treated case by case, especially on the finance and value management for making the money more efficient. And quantity surveyors as well as other key professions in this field are just created to deal with this sort of problems.

Introduction

Nisa et al. (2006, p.43) defined the quantity surveyor can be the construction cost consultant, building economist, construction economist or cost engineer who are the professional experts in construction cost management.
