The Adventures of Tom Sawyer By Mark Twain This story is about a 12 year old boy whose name is Thomas Sawyer.

The setting of this story takes place in the late 1800s somewhere near the Mississippi river bank. The main characters are Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Aunt Polly, Joe Harper, Sid, Becky Thatcher, Mr. Dobbins, Mr. Thatcher, Mrs. Harper, Widow Douglas, Muff Potter, Mary and Jeff Thatcher just to name a few. In this story Tom Sawyer is portrayed as a slacker, an adventurer, and a loyal friend.

In the story's beginning Aunt Polly (The aunt who adopted him after his mother's death) asked Tom of his truancy at school. Tom lies, and is punished by having to whitewash and double coat the fence. Tom soon cons the neighborhood boys into helping him with his chore. Tom doesn't pay the boys. Instead he tricks them into seeing this work as a privilege that must be paid for.

Tom not only gets his difficult task done but also gets a possession from each of his helpers. Later an episode occurs in the book where Tom is called upon to recite the books of the bible. Tom by this time had abridged enough golden tickets to earn a bible. On Monday morning Tom Sawyer visits Huck Finn. Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer discussed a dead cat acquired by Huck. Huck and Tom then make a scheduled meeting place and time to cure Huck's warts. The storyline then leads to a classroom scene where Mr. Dobbins sends Tom (because of his truancy) to sit with the girls. Tom is not angry. Tom sees Becky Thatcher and quickly tries to win or impress her. The relation ship of these two young adolescents ends abruptly when Becky is informed...
