Abortion - the Life Taking Decision

The debate about whether to have an abortion or not to have an abortion has been going on for many years. One of the problems is deciding when "life" actually begins. When a mother chooses to have an abortion she is taking the life of an unborn child. Why is it illegal to take an adult's life, but when it comes to abortion, it is legal in most states? Every murder should be treated the same rather than letting someone get away with taking an innocent life. In the eyes of most Americans abortion is murder, but there are ways to prevent this agonizing crisis.

There are many different ways to prevent abortion. Pregnancies should be avoided to prevent abortions. Taking "the morning after pill, which contains high doses of a hormone used in birth control pills, was approved by the FDA as a prescription drug in 1998.

If taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, it prevents 89% of pregnancies" (Wide Use of Pills Quiet Abortion 1).

Another way to prevent abortion is by taking birth control pills. If the woman takes birth control pills before having intercourse then she is reducing her chances of having to make this life taking decision. There are other forms of birth control that one would not have to plan for months in advance to use as their choice for pregnancy prevention. Condoms, creams and diaphragms are available either from a physician or over the counter in drugstores. The best way to keep away from having abortion, especially in unmarried couples, is abstinence. If one were abstinent until she is ready to have a child then there would not be any problem dealing with this death defining issue.
