As college students head back to school, many of them will be affected by a serious problem: binge drinking. Today nearly half of college students experience binge drinking, this type of drinking leads to many problems on campuses such as violence, rapes, sexually transmitted diseases and even suicides.

To most people, binge drinking brings to mind a couple of days of heavily intoxicated drinking. However, to many physicians, binge drinking is defined as the consumption of five or more drinks in a row on at least one occasion. Some researchers have modified this definition to women to four or more drinks in a row and men who drink more then 5 drinks in one sitting. This type of drinking causes individuals not to thing clearly. Their vision and senses are clouded, so therefore they are not able to make logical decisions. This is what leads people who binge drink to get into problems.

An example of a problem would be when an individual who is binge drinking begins to drive while they are under the influence of alcohol. When a person drives under the influence they are prone to make bad decisions and could perhaps hurt themselves or others. Some people can get violent when they are drinking and may act rude towards others which could cause conflict.

College students that are male and female can also get into confusing situations when they are drinking. Some men and women may think that the other person was consensual towards sexual encounters. Then come to find out the other person says the sexual act was not consensual and could call it "rape."
