The fruit I am reporting on is the apple. The apple is classified as a Pome. Pomes are fruits that have a core, and belong to the rose family Rosaceae. Their Genus is Malus, and there are 25 existing species of Apples.

Apples are available all year round. They are mostly grown in the northern Temperate Zone in both hemispheres. The apples that are harvested in the summer are too tart to eat and are used for cooking. They don't store well, so must be consumed right after they are harvested. Apples that are harvested in fall are great for eating. The two best varieties are the Jonathan and the Grimes Apple. These apples are grown in a temperate climate.

Apples can be purchased fresh, canned, dried, or frozen. Fresh apples make excellent snacks and their skins can also be used to decorate meals. Canned apples are usually used to make pies, cobblers, or desserts.

Dried apples are great for snacks. Frozen apples are used the same way as canned apples. Apples can be eaten raw, baked, roasted, stewed, or boiled. It can also be made into jellies, tarts, pies, puddings, and sauces.
