The History of Caffeine

People have enjoyed caffeine for thousands of years. The first records of caffeine was in 2737 BC when the Chinese emperor named Shen Nung was making some hot water when some leaves from a tree fell into it. This created the first tea.

Coffee was first made around 575 AD when beans were used as a form of currency as well as eaten. When Spanish conquistadors first arrived in Mexico the Europeans were served coffee by Montezuma, who was an Aztec ruler. In the 1880's soft drinks were produced with caffeine in it.

The Consumption of Caffeine

There are two ways caffeine can be consumed either trough beverages like coffee, coke and Pepsi or through tablets such as No-Doze, Midol or Anacin. There is also some caffeine in food such as chocolate.

The Effects of Caffeine on Us

Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant.

In normal a normal dose is effects are as follows.

* You become more alert.

* A Slight reduces in motor skills.

* It can cause Insomnia as well as headaches, nervousness and dizziness.

But if you have too much caffeine it can be deadly. Too much is more then 10 grams of caffeine, but this is extremely hard to do. You would have to drink about 90 cups of coffee in a short period of time to do this

The Popularity of Caffeine

Caffeine is one of the most popular drugs in the world. 120, 000 tons of caffeine is produced each year. In the United States of America 80% of adults consume caffeine regularly. The regular amount is 200 mg per day. Italy has over 200,000 coffee bars
