Tele-education - blessing or curse?

As one of the most important inventions of the twentieth century, internet has a wide application in all aspects of our lives. As a result, in recent years, tele-education has been gaining its popularity at an amazing rate. Tele-education is also known as distance education. Moore (1990, p.xv) defined distance education as "all arrangements for providing instruction through print or electronic communications media to persons engaged in planed learning in a place or time different from that of the instructor or instructors". With the development of computer technology, a lot of information can be read on computers.

Today, we are at the threshold of a new era in which technological learning solutions are developing into effective applications: The Internet has become an essential communications platform; private Intra-net networks are providing specific organizations and populations with higher levels of Internet service; technological learning environments are being developed (Beller, 1998, p.0).

Unlike the traditional teaching method, educators can use comparatively hi-tech equipment nowadays, as well as the internet, it makes the lectures more attractive. Certainly, the appearance of tele-education influences model educators a lot and plays an important role that it undeniably becomes the biggest concern of the present-day world.

The advent of the information age, computers, interactive capabilities of networks and video-conferencing can easily link educators with learners. For educators, tele-education is like telework in that it can provide a flexible work environment and offer reductions in commuting, and food and transportation costs (Bates, 2005). It offers the flexibility to them to teach in their own home or somewhere, at their own pace and at a time that suits them. Each educator can adjust his or her own teaching progress.
