Guy Montag, the main character in the story, is just an average man, with your average job, and an average life. All this is true until he met a girl, a girl named Clarisse McClellan. For ten years, Guy had never questioned the books he had burned, or if he was even "happy." Clarrise is the one who asked him, is he really happy? It is almost like Clarisse taught Guy how to think for himself. She was the one who showed Guy about things he never thought about. He finally felt a little "happy" whenever he talked to Clarisse, until one day Beatty, the leader of Guy's firemen group, told him she was hit by a car. That's what led Guy into the most chaotic week in his life. After seeing someone burned alive with her books, he questioned, what's so specialabout books? He decided to find out for himself by literally stealing one of the books.

Of course, he had more stashed away, but it was the sight of someone burned alive which made him sick, after more and more problems, he met a group of professors, who remembered books, so they can live on.
