Functions of Management
In everyday business operations, the four basic functions of business play a vital role in their success. Businesses need to run smoothly, whether big, small, new or old, and the four functions of management, allows the ability to control preventive measures when handling tactical, planned, and set decisions.
The four functions of management are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Planning is the foundational function upon which all the other management functions are levied and permits the assessment of current standings and future desired achievements. One of the major goals my corporation is attempting to implement is the cross - training of all employees on multiple GDS (operating systems). Currently most agents are single skilled and this plan will greatly reduce incoming hold times for incoming customer calls while maximizing office productivity and efficiency.
The second function in line is organization, achieved by maximizing the resources necessary in order for the plans to be successful. "The focus is on division, coordination, and control of tasks and the flow of information within the organization. It is in this function that managers distribute authority to job holders" (Barrett, 1999), and adress internal interactions, such as the chain of command. By organizing training times and efficiently balancing training with skilled agent's availability for calls, so as not to have customers waiting on hold, is a good way my corporation succeeds at organization in an attempt to achieve company goals.
