The Icon

Good Morning Esteemed Ladies and Gentlemen of the Queensland University Press. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to listen to my presentation. I assure you, it won't be a waste of your time. Now I'm here on behalf of the kingfisher literary club to inform you about Mel Gibson and why he should be added to your new book as an Australian post modern Icon.

But first of all, what makes a person an Icon? Is it that people look up to that person? Could it be that they have won lots of awards. Maybe it's a person that everyone looks to for guidance? It could be that the person is well known and respected. In fact an icon is all these and Mel Gibson is the perfect example of an "Ozzie" Icon.

Mel Gibson was born on the January 3, 1956 in New York but moved to Australia Soon After.

He has been a proud Australian Citizen ever since. He started his Acting Career just after high school when he was accepted into the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney and shortly after worked at the Southern Australian Theater Company where he stared in a low-budget film called Summer City. But his fist real success was the highly acclaimed movie, "Mad Max". That movie went on to make history as being Australia's biggest commercial success, grossing over $100 million worldwide. But it was in 1982, when Mad Max 2 was released in the United States that Mel Gibson was truly established as an international star. But by far his greatest movie success was *Pause* Brave Heart. Mel Gibson directed, stared and produced it with his newly formed company "Icon Productions". This Movie won him 5 Oscars including Best...
